STRING QUARTET MANILA PLAYS MY WAY

Popular old song remains at heart and still music lovers remember the all time favorite music. Philippine musicians, being sentimentalists  favor the music of the past. A reason why revivals proliferate.  Such music list is founded and given recognition, improvised through an artist's touch making a song or music amazing.

Songs and music are many but few battles the test of time. It remains in the hearts of almost all. 

A string quartet or similar combination can do a simple song or music spectacular with emotions put to trigger magical hands to perform -  only professional musicians can muster.

Corporate events musicians are favored for such affair adding prestige and life during the course of the day and added life as guests come and go. It is one way to promote a campaign and in return musicians gained a recall.

Most organizers opt for subtle music, classics are most considered but combining it with some upbeat music gains a repute for the musicians who interpret them. Sometimes, a themed event requires a kind of music to be rendered exactly as decided and Filipino musicians are keen to observe that. POPULAR OLD SONG INTERPRETED FOR A WEDDING

Reviving an old song is also reviving the artist's spirit clamoring a memory and rendering that special song brings back sanity after a humdrum. Well, old songs or music are the in thing these days performed with a twist and personal interpretation.

Examining an old song explains the beauty in every word put and meant not to be tarnished with fun singing (singing it with no expression or feeling). A performer, whether a wedding singer or jazz singer is free to interpret but there is a candid rule to give justice to a song. It is a mockery if you don't. A music artist understands the rule.

The song above; if my memory serves me right, is a 1938 composition and released on that same year. Everyone knows the song (even just the hum of it) and performed in many styles. It has been a hit for many years then revived and become bigger piece of music. It never compares with mediocrity. It stands as a masterpiece.

Juilliard Graduate and Me

It was a wedding in Fernbrook few months ago and a privilege was given me by singing with a Juilliard Voice graduate as it came to my memory when I heard a Veteran Pilipino Soprano singing an old Tagalog classic, “Gaano Kita Kamahal,” the kundiman we sang during the wedding reception at The Victorian garden of Fernbrook. I was hesitant to do a duet with her but she insisted. I wrote the lyrics first to be sure I won’t forget because I haven’t sang the song for quite sometime. There were many guests during the reception and I surmised that most of them are music lovers, especially during the ceremony were solemn music were rendered and they were intent hearing with glances on our side. When the Lord’s Prayer was sung, there was momentary silence with only my voice heard. And when the Soprano’s turn came more silence with only her colloratura voice invaded the air. She did Ave Maria by Gounod with much expression being a trained singer and the ceremony really turned into an unusual one. Trained voices are rare these days and hearing such is balm to soul.

“Gaano Kita Kamahal” is a classic love song and always be there till the end of time. We Filipinos love music and appreciation is beyond compare setting us apart with regards performance because when we do, we do it with soul. Even Filipinos abroad know the song by heart and its popularity will endure. How I wish that Filipinos from other countries will treasure the music they had when they were in their native country.

The privilege was great that moment and it happened she just flew from the states to grace her nephew’s wedding and bliss was mine because she still treasures the beauty of our music.
